A Client’s Point of View – Janice Donelson

IMG_1361Metamorphosis Pilates Center is pleased to feature Janice Donelson in “A Client’s Point of View”.  Janice enjoys Reformer classes at Metamorphosis Pilates Center and is a recent graduate of her first aerial class.

Janice shares her thoughts:

I started Pilates 14(!) years ago with a DVD. After a while I was curious about whether I was doing the exercises correctly. The solution, of course, was to take a class. I found Debbie and have been with her ever since! My body has become stronger, and I’m more flexible than I was before. My posture is better and, to my surprise, I feel better about my self! Pilates can be as hard as you want it to be, and I would recommend Metamorphosis Pilates to everyone.

KiVo® blends vocals, dance and chant for positive transformation. KiVo®’s lineage comes from wisdom traditions that use the voice and body for celebration, ceremony and healing. KiVo® supports your voice being heard in the world by giving you new ways to use it and liberating the wise voice within. Research shows that when we use our bodies and voices together, more areas of the brain fire, creating growth as we age.

Lis’s work with the “wisdom traditions”

Last spring, Lis studied Ethnomusicology at Stanford University.  She used the recordings and journal writings she made in Kenya in 2012 of the Kamba community for scholarly research on the Kamba Kwina-Wathi. In the Kamba language Kwina-Wathi are Dance-Songs. Kwina, means to dance or sing and Wathi means a dance or song. In a Kwina Wathi it is possible to dance a dance, sing a song, dance a song and sing a dance!

Lis says about her research, “Not only was I thrilled to give my own creative work context, I was excited to deepen my understanding of the tradition worldwide and connect the work with an ancient practice.” As part of her research, Lis found out that a soloist of a particular Kwina-Wathi tradition called a Kilumi is required to be a “Medicine Man, dancer, instrumentalist and poet”. As musician, dancer and composer who has shared Kivo® in a variety of healing centers, Lis comments, “It is no wonder I’ve been called to this work!”.

See our last post on Kivo® for more information on the workshop!
